Taj Connemara Chennai

Constructed in the year 1854 as the Imperial Hotel, Taj Connemara is the only heritage hotel in Chennai. It was renamed Albany in the year 1886 and then re-founded in 1890 as The Connemara. Then in 1937, a new art deco look was given to the hotel. Linking pool and tower block was added in 1974 by Geoffrey Bawa, the legendary architect.

The feel is informal but stylish. An interactive kitchen is the highlight. It is ideal for elaborate buffets during breakfast and dinner, and lazy brunch on Sunday or a special meal on a Friday night. The facility of packed breakfast is also available. The menu also includes of a variety of liquors, teas and coffees, fresh fruits blends, along with an exhaustive list of champagnes from South Africa, Italy, France, Australia, Chile, and California. Some of the signature dishes include Railway Lamb Cutlet with Devil Chutney, Vegetable green curry, Cottage cheese kofta in tomato curry, Fish Hara masala, Grandma’s chicken curry.

The Raintree

The Raintree, serving special Chettinad delicacies, is not only a restaurant but a delight with stone pillars, and oil lamps. One of the best South Indian restaurants in Chennai, it has hostesses in silk, serving traditional snacks at the entrance of the restaurant. While on one side there is an air-conditioned dining area, on the other is an open space where the guests can savor their meals under a canopy of trees, with classical music being played in the background. The murals are a reflection of a village and a typical Chettinad home. The restaurant also features a chutney and pickle trolley. Food is prepared in clay pots over wood fire. There is a special menu with zero spice too.

Hip-Asia

Serving Pan-Asian fares like Japanese, Malaysian, Vietnamese, and Thai, Hip-Asia is an elegant dining venue with stylish and chic ambiance, light music, and warm lighting. Each dish that is on the menu has been carefully picked by the professional chefs. Freshest of ingredients are used to make dishes with authentic recipes. The restaurant has a set and à la carte menu and a choice of Teppanyaki. Some of the must-try dishes are Tom Yum Soup and Pla Rad Prik, Chilli Garlic and Basil Sauce, Poh pia je, Chicken Satay, Kaeng kiew wan, and Fish in Saigon chilli sauce.
