History of Tharakan’s Heritage Resort
Tharakan’s Heritage Resort exudes an old world charm. The “Tharavad” of this heritage resort was rebuilt at its present position in the year 1827 by P.V.Avira Tharakan. Tharakan’s Heritage Resort boasts of two open court yards that are situated within the house. The main segment of the house is made of timber and has superb handcrafted carvings. The wooden portion of this resort is aged more than 400 years. Tharakan’s Heritage Resort also houses two strong rooms called “aras" in the main segment. The "ara" located downstairs was utilized to store silver coins as paper currency came into circulation much later. Precious stones and gold coins were stored in the "ara" situated upstairs. The compound of Tharakan Heritage Resort has a coconut garden that is inter- cropped with spices and fruit trees.
